The much-anticipated reactions to The Devil Wears Prada 2 have finally surfaced! As the sequel prepares for its May 1 release, members of the media industry have been sharing their thoughts on the new film, which brings together Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Stanley Tucci, and Emily Blunt 20 years after their hit 2006 movie. The Devil Wears Prada 2 is hitting theaters on May 1.
Erik Anderson of AwardsWatch praised the new movie, writing on X that the sequel "has no right to be as good as it is." He further stated, "It's a perfect balance of callbacks and nostalgia, and Anne Hathaway continues to shine as our most vibrant star. It's funny, deeper, and we get to see 'Vogue' again."

Collider writer Rachel Leishman simply wrote on X on April 27 that Tucci's performance "made me cry TWICE," adding, "I loved it. No notes."
Film critic and podcaster Matt Neglia wrote on X that the sequel should live up to the expectations and hopes of fans who enjoyed the original movie. "It's funny, charming, and filled with genuinely heartwarming payoffs," he said. "Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci slip back into their roles as if no time has passed, while finding new shades in their characters that thread the fine line between nostalgia and the present day." He continued, "For me, it's the commentary on the deteriorating state of modern media and the people fighting desperately to keep it alive that makes it worth returning to these characters all these years later. It may not aim for high art, but you can feel the passion from everyone shining through all the glitz and glamour, making for a comforting and entertaining watch."
IndieWire's film critic David Ehrlich did not offer his opinion on the movie but did share a unique observation on Hathaway's sense of style throughout the two films. "It took almost two entire movies, but Andrea Sachs finally wears a legitimately chic outfit (a cheap white t-shirt with the album cover for Björk's 'Post' screen-printed across the front)," he shared on X.
Jonathan Sim offered a slightly less enthusiastic response to the movie. He described The Devil Wears Prada 2 as "an acceptable, notable step down from the original" in a post he shared on X. "It's amazing to see Hathaway, Streep, Blunt, & Tucci back as these characters. They're fun. The story lacks the pained, human relatable aspects of the original. More tedious and far less interesting," Sim wrote.
One of the few outwardly negative reactions came from film critic Courtney Howard. She shared in her initial round of social media reactions that she didn't love #TheDevilWearsPrada2. "Outside of its well-intentioned spotlight on the flailing state of journalism, the narrative fails to resonate," she wrote on X. "It felt like a series of thinly connected story whims. No suspense, but beautiful sequins everywhere."
The Devil Wears Prada 2 features a host of new cast members, including Kenneth Branagh, Lucy Liu, Justin Theroux, B.J. Novak, Pauline Chalamet, Patrick Brammall, and Caleb Hearon. The Devil Wears Prada 2 is in theaters on May 1.
