Behind the curtain of a new cinematic venture stands A24, ushering in the return of Josh Safdie as a solo directorial force since his 2019 masterpiece, 'Uncut Gems.' The spotlight is now shining on Timothée Chalamet, who is inching closer to securing the lead role in Safdie's next film.

The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Chalamet is in the final stages of negotiations to star in A24's upcoming feature, aptly titled 'Marty Supreme.' The movie's plot remains a mystery, veiled in secrecy, but whispers suggest it's an original, fictional tale that will captivate audiences.

Safdie will helm the film, armed with a script he co-wrote with Ronald Bronstein, whose writing credits include the critically acclaimed 'Good Time' and 'Uncut Gems.' The producers' list boasts Safdie, Chalamet, Bronstein, Eli Bush, and Anthony Katagas, marking a reunion with A24, who previously backed Safdie's collaborations with his brother Benny in 'Good Time' (2017) and 'Uncut Gems' (2019). Though the Safdie brothers no longer plan to co-direct, they continue their collaborative journey as producers under their company, Elara Pictures.

'Marty Supreme' is rumored to involve the thrilling sport of ping-pong, and A24 seemingly validated this rumor with a teasing image. The company's official X (formerly Twitter) account posted, "Josh Safdie's MARTY SUPREME starring @RealChalamet. Coming soon."

Chalamet's recent credits are a testament to his versatility, including 'Dune: Part Two,' 'Wonka,' and 'Bones and All.' He is also set to embody the legendary Bob Dylan in James Mangold's biographical drama, 'A Complete Unknown,' adding producer to his hat for this project.

'Marty Supreme' marks Josh Safdie's first solo directorial feature since 2008's 'The Pleasure of Being Robbed.' Meanwhile, Benny Safdie is steering the helm of 'The Smashing Machine,' a biopic about former wrestler and mixed martial artist Mark Kerr, starring Dwayne Johnson, also under the A24 banner. Variety was the first to break the news of Chalamet's potential involvement in this exciting new project.
