Sophie Thatcher, a standout from the hit show Yellowjackets, has expressed enthusiasm about potentially reprising her role or embarking on a fresh journey within the beloved Star Wars saga. In the 2021 Disney+ series, The Book of Boba Fett, Thatcher portrayed Drash, the cybernetic gang leader who, alongside her compatriot Skad (played by Jordan Bolger), initially clashed with Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison) before earning his respect and aligning their forces.
While chatting with Inverse, Thatcher reminisced about her time navigating the expansive and intricately woven universe of Star Wars. She eagerly affirmed, "I would love to revisit Drash or perhaps embark on a whole new adventure within this fascinating franchise. The Star Wars universe is incredibly broad, dense with detail, and utterly captivating. Jon Favreau, the creator of The Book of Boba Fett, imbued it with a timely political edge that made it all the more compelling. It's a universe so cool, I'd jump at the chance to be part of it again without hesitation."
As of now, there's no concrete news on a second season of The Book of Boba Fett. However, Temuera Morrison hinted during the Sydney Supernova in 2024 that he had been subtly urging Disney and Lucasfilm to greenlight more episodes. "Both Ming-Na Wen and I worked tirelessly, hoping they'd continue the story with seasons two, three, four, five, six, and seven," Morrison enthused. "I've been gently pushing them in that direction. It needs more persuasion, but still..."
Morrison's optimism in 2024 was a marked improvement from his uncertain outlook a year prior, when he admitted to Newshub that his future in the Star Wars universe was shrouded in mystery. "I'm not even sure if there will be a Season 2," Morrison pondered in 2023. "I have no idea what's going on. We're emerging from a lull, and everyone seems to be settling back in. It all boils down to budgets, their plans, and the exorbitant costs involved. Honestly, I don't know. Judging by the fans I've met, they all clamor for another season of Boba Fett, but I genuinely don't know what lies ahead."
Lucasfilm has signaled its intention to revisit the same timeline as The Book of Boba Fett with its forthcoming film, The Mandalorian & Grogu, featuring Pedro Pascal reprising his role as the reluctant guardian of an infant akin to the Jedi Master Yoda. In December 2024, the studio announced that co-writer and director Jon Favreau had wrapped up production on The Mandalorian & Grogu.
"Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni have successfully concluded filming on The Mandalorian & Grogu, marking the first Star Wars theatrical release since Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker in 2019. We couldn't be more thrilled to witness Din Djarin and Grogu ignite their jetpack and soar onto the big screen," a statement on the Star Wars website exclaimed in December 2024.
In a 1978 animated segment of the Star Wars Holiday Special, Don Francks lent his voice to the helmeted bounty hunter, who rescued Luke Skywalker, Chewbacca, C-3PO, and R2-D2 from a monster, only to reveal he had been hired by Darth Vader to eliminate them. Jeremy Bulloch was the first to portray Boba Fett in live-action in both The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, with Temuera Morrison subsequently taking over the mantle.
Details about the upcoming Star Wars film remain sparse, aside from rumors that Jeremy Allen White from The Bear might sign on to play Rotta the Hutt, Jabba the Hutt's rebellious son. Renowned actress Sigourney Weaver and Once Upon a Time star Jonny Coyne have joined the cast in undisclosed capacities. Slated for release on May 22, 2026, The Mandalorian & Grogu promises to captivate audiences once more with its thrilling adventures in a galaxy far, far away.
