"My trusty companion... Seize the moment and embark on this quest!" Shout Studios has unveiled the official trailer for a nostalgia-tinged reboot of the iconic 1980s film, titled "Deathstalker," helmed by the Canadian genre film virtuoso, Steven Kostanski – a mastermind behind "The Void," "Leprechaun Returns," "Psycho Goreman (PG)," and "Frankie Freako." This autumn, we revisit the enchanting yet perilous Kingdom of Abraxeon through Kostanski's reimagining of Roger Corman's cult sword-and-sorcery film series, "Deathstalker," which originated in 1983.
Starring Daniel Bernhardt as the legendary Deathstalker, with Patton Oswalt lending his voice to the benevolent wizard Doodad, this action-packed fantasy adventure promises an exhilarating cinematic journey. It also boasts a stellar cast including Christina Orjalo, Paul Lazenby, and Nina Bergman. Set to hit theaters this October, the reboot immerses viewers in a fantastical world, leveraging creature suits, prosthetic FX makeup, and stop-motion animation crafted by Kostanski's Action Pants FX studio.
In this iteration, Deathstalker confronts the emerging darkness and embarks on a perilous mission to vanquish the undead sorcerer Nekromemnon and thwart his Dreadite minions from seizing the kingdom. It evokes the spirit of "Army of Darkness" while paying homage to the epic sword-and-sorcery classics of yesteryears. Truthfully, it appears as the ideal film companion for a pizza-and-beer-laden weekend. "Evil wears many masks... but adventure is but a singular call!"
In the new "Deathstalker" film, the Kingdom of Abraxeon stands on the brink of destruction, besieged by the Dreadites, heralds of the ancient sorcerer Nekromemnon. As Deathstalker retrieves a cursed amulet from a battlefield strewn with corpses, he is ensnared by dark magic and pursued by monstrous assassins of varied forms. To escape his fate, he must break the curse and confront the burgeoning evil head-on. Death, in this tale, marks merely the prelude to a grand adventure!
Penned and directed by Steven Kostanski, whose credits include the fan-adored "Manborg," "Father's Day," "The Void," "Leprechaun Returns," "Psycho Goreman (PG)," and "Frankie Freako," alongside episodes of the revitalized "Day of the Dead" series, "Deathstalker" is produced by Avi Federgreen, Michael Paszt, and Pasha Patriki. Having premiered at the prestigious 2025 Locarno Film Festival this month, Shout Studios and Radical Ent. will introduce Kostanski's "Deathstalker" to select US theaters starting October 10th, 2025. Are you ready for this fantastical voyage?
