Lewis Capaldi lent his voice to the discourse on the disparity between male and female artists, highlighting the double standards that females encounter in the industry. During a chat on the 'Creativo' podcast, the singer behind the hit 'Someone You Loved' acknowledged the current revival of pop music, concurring that "it's truly cool right now." He also extended commendations to female vocalists such as Chappell Roan, Olivia Rodrigo, and Sabrina Carpenter.

"It seems that women are not only leading the charge but also creating the most captivating music in pop at this very moment," the composer of 'Before You Go' remarked. Capaldi further elaborated on his observation regarding the abundance of women in the pop genre.

"Women seem to bring their all to the stage, meticulously crafting each performance," he clarified. "Many males, myself included, often just step up in a T-shirt and jeans and sing. It's as simple as that." Although he playfully deemed his theory a "legitimate critique," Capaldi also recognized artists like Harry Styles, Benson Boone, and Conan Gray who embrace a more theatrical approach.

He emphasized that women confront stricter expectations within the industry, stating, "A woman couldn't simply walk on stage in a T-shirt and jeans, sang carefree, and get away with it." Capaldi deemed this "unfair" and expressed that women face a "higher standard." He continued, "I sense that they're scrutinized more rigorously than male artists when it comes to such matters."

Capaldi, the vocalist behind 'Bruises,' returned to the musical landscape in 2025 after voluntarily stepping away from the industry for two years. He previously captivated the audience at Glastonbury but struggled to complete his set in 2023 due to anxiety and Tourette's syndrome.

Now, Capaldi is geared up to embark on a UK concert tour in September, followed by performances in New Zealand and Australia in November and December.
