As the echoes of a tragic mishap on the set of the Western film Rust linger on, Alec Baldwin continues to grapple with the profound trauma that has shaped his life in innumerable ways. More than four years since cinematographer Halyna Hutchins lost her life in a fatal shooting incident, the 67-year-old actor shared on the December 19th episode of the Dopey podcast the extensive toll the event and its aftermath have taken on him.
"The ordeal broke every nerve in my body, spiritually, financially, work-wise, and career-wise," he revealed, his voice heavy with the weight of unspoken grief. "If I were to tell you what my health conditions have been since October 21, 2021—the date of that harrowing event—it feels like it's taken 10 years off my life."
The Emmy winner, who faced charges of involuntary manslaughter twice before the case was dismissed with prejudice in July 2024, recounted a visceral reaction to the fallout from Halyna's death at the age of 42. "There was a time when I took a nap every day for a year," he said, adding that at one point, "I couldn't even move."
Earlier this year, Alec, who shares seven children with wife Hilaria Baldwin and daughter Ireland, 30, with ex-wife Kim Basinger, offered insight into the long-term mental health effects of the situation, including the lengthy legal journey that ensued. "This has been surreal," he told Hilaria during an episode of their TLC reality series The Baldwins in February. "I can't even believe we're going through this, and I always feel more in pain about you than me because I think to myself, 'Well, I'm going to try my best to get through it.' And I think about what it's done to you and how much it's hurt you.'"
While Hilaria, 41, acknowledged the ways her husband had been affected by the matter, Alec credited his family for giving him the will to move forward. "From the bottom of my soul," he said, "I don't know where I would be if I didn't have you or these kids."
