At Monday night's 2024 Fashion Awards, held at London's storied Royal Albert Hall, fellow model Ashley Graham and actress Nava Mau had the honor of presenting the Model of the Year award to Alex Consani. The 21-year-old model, donning a Dilara Findikoglu ensemble, emotionally accepted the accolade.
"As the first trans woman to receive this prestigious award, I cannot help but express my profound gratitude to the trailblazing females who paved the way for me, particularly the Black trans community that fiercely fought for representation in our industry," Consani said, her voice resonating with emotion.
With her mesmerizing presence on the runway and a colossal social media following, including 3.9 million TikTok enthusiasts captivated by her comedic videos, Consani has cultivated a dedicated fan base. A familiar face in high-fashion circles, she has walked for luxury brands such as Chanel, Simone Rocha, Diesel, Luar, and Stella McCartney during the spring 2025 season alone.
She also shone as the star of Jacquemus' surreal holiday campaign, unveiled in November. In the mesmerizing video, Consani is seen covered in cucumber slices from head to toe, spinning on a rowing machine in kitten heels, surrounded by strings of orange slices.
"I was utterly captivated by the idea of featuring Alex Consani in this campaign," said Simon Porte Jacquemus, the brand's visionary founder and creative director. "And the public loves seeing such an array of innovative ideas and boundless creativity."
In October, Consani made a groundbreaking appearance alongside Valentina Sampaio as the first transgender women to stride down the runway at the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show.
"As a trans woman, I believe it's crucial for individuals like me to be perceived as beautiful on the runway, especially in a setting that has historically been predominantly cis-oriented," Consani said backstage before the groundbreaking show. "It's essential to bring in a diverse range of individuals, and I'm incredibly grateful to be considered part of this inclusive community."
Last year's Model of the Year winner, Paloma Elsesser, who has walked for Balenciaga, Michael Kors, and Chloé, paved the way for Consani's triumph.
