Amber Heard is embarking on her latest theatrical endeavor amidst a fellowship of esteemed actors. The 39-year-old actress made a rare public appearance, captured in enchanting photographs alongside her co-stars at the Williamstown Theatre Festival. This summer, she will grace the MainStage Theatre of the Massachusetts festival with her talents in Jeremy O. Harris's new play, "Spirit of the People."
In a stunning Vogue photoshoot, Heard—whose representative confirmed to PEOPLE in May that she had recently welcomed twins into her world—radiated joy as she smiled beside her fellow thespians. Surrounded by the embrace of nature, she also posed for a solo shot, capturing the essence of the serene backdrop. The lens of Hunter Abrams and Sam Lee immortalized these moments.
Pamela Anderson, Whitney Peak, William Jackson Harper, and Chris Messina, all set to participate in the festival, were among the cast and creative minds who posed alongside Heard. Harris, a member of the festival's inaugural Creative Collective responsible for curating its programming, described the atmosphere by quoting Tennessee Williams, the celebrated figure honored at this year's festival.
"In an interview with Jason Grissom, Williams once said, 'There's magic in those woods,' referring to the lush greenery around Williamstown where I've found myself this summer," shared Harris, 36. "He was spot on: There's an enchanting madness to creating theater here that has infected us all this summer."
He continued, "Perhaps it's the exhilarating 'theater camp for adults' vibe, or the manner in which numerous emerging theater artists—Katina [Medina Mora, director of 'Spirit of the People'], Nicholas [Alexander Chavez], Whitney [Peak], Amber [Heard, also of 'Spirit of the People'], and many more—have diving headfirst into this world, not merely keeping pace but outpacing some of their peers."
"I'm in awe of each individual assembled this summer, and I hope the experience of encountering these breathtaking works of raw, ambitious art will offer you something profound as we plunge headlong into this precarious moment in American history," Harris added.
The festival's lineup also boasts "Not About Nightingales," "Camino Real," and "The Gig: After Moise and the World of Reason." Heard previously hinted at her involvement in the festival and Harris's new play after her casting alongside actors Brandon Flynn and Lío Mehiel in June. According to the festival's website at the time, the production will also feature Ato Blankson-Wood, Zachary Booth, James Cusati-Moyer, Amandla Jahava, Emma Ramos, Julian Sanchez, and Tonatiuh.
In the ensuing weeks, Heard shared a selfie with Harris on Instagram, proclaiming that she was in her "theater era." Earlier this month, she posted a snapshot of her preparations, captioning it, "Work in progress."
According to the Williamstown website, Heard will portray the character of Genevieve in "Spirit of the People." This production marks her return to acting since 2023, following her appearances in "In the Fire" and "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom."
This theater role comes three years after Heard's legal battles with her ex-husband Johnny Depp concluded in 2022 and just months after she announced on May 11 that she had welcomed twins, daughter Agnes and son Ocean.
"When I had my first baby girl Oonagh four years ago, my world changed forever. I thought I couldn't possibly burst with more joy," Heard wrote on Instagram at the time. "Well, now I am bursting times three!!! Becoming a mother by myself and on my own terms, despite my own fertility challenges, has been the most humbling experience of my life. I am eternally grateful that I was able to choose this responsibly and thoughtfully," she added.
