Apple has secured another heavyweight casting for its upcoming "Cape Fear" series, with Amy Adams joining forces with Javier Bardem in this gripping thriller. Renowned filmmakers Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorsese, who famously collaborated on the 1991 remake of the 1962 original, are among the executive producers, alongside Adams herself.
Just like the two cinematic adaptations and the John D. MacDonald novel "The Executioners" that inspired them, the "Cape Fear" series delves into the chilling tale of Max Cady (Bardem), a convicted killer who, upon his release from prison, sets his sights on tormenting Anna and Tom Bowden, the married attorneys he believes are responsible for his incarceration. Adams will take on the role of Anna.
This ten-episode series infuses the narrative with a contemporary twist, exploring America's fascination with true crime stories.
"Cape Fear" hails from acclaimed writer and showrunner Nick Antosca ("The Act," "A Friend of the Family"). It is produced by Universal Studio Group's UCP, where Antosca has a comprehensive deal, in collaboration with Amblin Television. Executive producers include Antosca, his "Eat the Cat" collaborator Alex Hedlund, Scorsese, Spielberg, Darryl Frank, and Justin Falvey for Amblin Television, as well as Adams and Bardem.
Adams, who has garnered six Oscar nominations, most recently in 2019 for her role in "Vice," has also been recognized with Emmy nods for her lead performance and producing duties on HBO's 2018 miniseries "Sharp Objects." Her recent credits boast titles like "Nightbitch," "Disenchanted," and "The Woman in the Window," and she is set to star in and produce the upcoming feature comedy "Lazy Susans." Adams is represented by Linden Entertainment, WME, and Sloane Offer.
