Published: Dec 15 2025

The marriage between Amy Schumer and Chris Fischer has come to an end, seven years after their wedding and six years after they became parents to their six-year-old son, Gene. "Chris and I have made the difficult decision to end our marriage," Amy shared in an Instagram statement on December 12th. "We love each other very much and will continue to focus on raising our son." She accompanied the statement with a photo of herself and Chris, 45, riding the subway together, before quipping, "Not because I dropped some lbs and thought I could bag a basket, and not because he's a hot James Beard award-winning chef who can still pull some hot tail." Amy added, "Amicable and all love and respect! Family forever."

Earlier in December, Amy seemingly confirmed that her relationship with Chris was on the rocks. At that time, she said that "whatever ends up happening" had "nothing to do" with her recent weight loss or his autism diagnosis. "Fingers crossed we make it through he's the best," the comedian wrote in a since-deleted Instagram post on December 1st, adding that the reason she was pictured without her wedding band was because she "never" wears jewelry.

In the same post, Amy clarified that her 50-pound weight loss was "not to look hot," but to combat Cushing Syndrome, a hormonal disorder she was diagnosed with in 2024. "I did it to survive," she explained. "I had a disease that makes your face extremely puffy and can kill you." Cushing syndrome is caused by elevated levels of cortisol in the body, according to the National Library of Medicine.

Amy has been open about her continuing battle with endometriosis, an often-painful autoimmune disease that can cause infertility. In fact, Amy underwent IVF in 2020 in a bid to have a second baby, before ultimately having her uterus and appendix removed the following year to treat endometriosis. "We're gonna have just one child and we're just enjoying our little family," Amy shared in a 2022 episode of the Dear Chelsea podcast, explaining how she and Chris struggled to conceive a second child. "We tried, but we're just gonna have the one perfect little adorable angel."
