Aubrey Plaza has stepped away from the digital realm of social media, seeking solace in privacy following the tragic loss of her beloved husband, Jeff Baena. The talented actress behind the iconic "Agatha All Along" tune, now 40, silently bid farewell to her Instagram presence, more than a week after Baena, aged 47, took his own life on January 3. Attempts to access her account now lead to a barren white page, with the solemn message: “Sorry, this page isn't available. The link you followed may be broken, or the page may have been removed,” serving as a stark reminder of her absence.
In a heartfelt statement shared with Entertainment Weekly, Plaza and Baena's family described his passing as “an unthinkable tragedy,” adding, “We are profoundly thankful for the overwhelming support received. During this profoundly difficult time, we kindly request your understanding and respect for our privacy.”
Plaza and Baena's love story began in 2011, blossoming quietly until the actress, in a now-deleted 2021 Instagram post, confirmed they had tied the knot after a decade together. Although they kept their romance under wraps, their on-screen collaborations shone brightly, with Plaza starring in several of Baena's films, including his directorial debut "Life After Beth" in 2014, "Joshy" in 2016, "The Little Hours" in 2017, and "Spin Me Round" in 2022. Plaza also made her directorial debut in Baena's 2021 anthology series, "Cinema Toast."
Following Baena's untimely demise, a circle of close friends honored his memory on social media. Among them were Alison Brie, Molly Shannon, Adam Pally, and Jake Johnson, who paid their respects to the independent filmmaker. Alex Ross Perry, a cherished friend, also mourned Baena in an Instagram post, writing in part, “I cherished every idea he shared about his upcoming films and stories he longed to create and share. They were quirky, they were unconventional, and they were quintessentially Jeff. Jeff brought me together with a myriad of incredibly talented individuals, for he found joy in such connections. I hope these bonds persist, and that we forever cherish tales of him. We are all enriched by having known Jeff.”
Baena leaves behind a legacy cherished by Plaza, his mother Barbara Stern, his stepfather Roger Stern, his father Scott Baena, his stepmother Michele Baena, his brother Brad Baena, his stepsister Gabay Fluxman, and his stepbrother Jed Fluxman.
