Barry Keoghan has a message for the haters. During an appearance on SiriusXM’s The Morning Mash Up, the 33-year-old actor opened up about how he deals with criticism, particularly that centered around his appearance. "There's a lot of hate online. It's a relentless barrage of abuse over how I look," Keoghan told host Ben Harlum on Friday, March 20th.

While emphasizing that he does have an "incredible fanbase" and that people are "so lovely" in general, the Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man star admitted that there is also a "nasty side" to the internet. "It's also disappointing that my little boy will have to read all of this stuff when he gets older," Keoghan added, referring to his 3-year-old son Brando, whom he welcomed with former girlfriend Alyson Sandro.
According to Keoghan, he has largely "removed" himself from being online. "But I'm still a curious human being that wants to go on," he said. "If I attend an event or go somewhere, I want to see how it was received, and it's not nice." Keoghan continued, "It's made me shy away. It's made me really go inside myself and not want to attend places, not want to go outside."
The actor – currently filming The Beatles - A Four-Film Cinematic Event, in which he stars as Ringo Starr – added, "I say this being absolutely pure and honest with you. It's becoming a problem. I actually don't go to places because of these things."
Keoghan further explained that the criticism directed at him as an actor is especially frustrating. "When that starts leaking into your art, it becomes a problem, because then you don't even want to be on screen anymore," he said.
