Beyoncé has paid a heartfelt tribute to Angie Stone, the legendary 63-year-old R&B icon, following her tragic death in a car accident over the weekend. Just moments after Stone's family announced her passing on Saturday, March 1, a poignant black-and-white photograph of the singer appeared on Beyoncé's website, accompanied by a deeply personal message. "Thank you for your mesmerizing voice, unwavering strength, and unparalleled artistry," the message reads. "Your incredible legacy will forever shine brightly in our hearts," it continues. "Rest in eternal peace, Angie Stone."
Stone was en route from Alabama to Atlanta with her band on Friday, February 28, when their van overturned and was subsequently struck by a semi-truck at around 4 a.m., according to a statement released to Billboard the following day. Tragically, the singer of "No More Rain (In This Cloud)" lost her life in the accident, while everyone else in the vehicle miraculously survived.
Hailing from Columbia, South Carolina, Stone began her musical journey as a member of the female rap trio, The Sequence. She later embarked on a solo career, achieving several top 10 albums on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. The talented musician notched three songs on the Billboard Hot 100, including "No More Rain" in 1999, "Brotha" in 2001, and "Wish I Didn’t Miss You" in 2002.
In 2003, Stone appeared alongside Beyoncé in the film "The Fighting Temptations," portraying the character of Alma. Currently, Beyoncé, the founder of Ivy Park, is gearing up for her highly anticipated Cowboy Carter Tour. Earlier in February, she garnered the prestigious album of the year award for her Billboard 200-topping LP, Cowboy Carter. Additionally, she won best country album and best country duo/group performance for "II Most Wanted," featuring Miley Cyrus.
