Fresh from her stunning appearance at Sunday's Academy Awards, where she was part of a tribute to James Bond theme songs, BLACKPINK's LISA shared a heartwarming bond with Jimmy Kimmel over their mutual experience of being suspended high above the stage at the Oscars. During Tuesday night's (March 4) episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Kimmel reminisced about the anxiety and discomfort he felt while being flown across the stage during one of his hosting gigs. "It seemed so elegant and graceful, but it’s kind of scary, right?" he asked, with a touch of humor.
LISA, with a radiant smile, replied, "It was really scary. I was like, ‘I’m really not comfortable doing this!'" She recounted how producers had constantly checked in on her to ensure she was alright with being lowered to the stage in a harness while belting out Paul McCartney and Wings’ “Live and Let Die” as part of a medley that also featured Doja Cat covering Shirley Bassey’s “Diamonds Are Forever” and RAYE’s take on Adele’s “Skyfall.”
While Kimmel joked about gravity "squeezing everything down" in a playful manner, LISA admitted she couldn't even feel her legs during the performance. "Those were the least of my problems," Kimmel quipped, adding a dash of comedy to the conversation.
The BLACKPINK singer also delved into her well-acclaimed role as Mook in the current season of HBO’s The White Lotus, noting that fans had speculated that her sweet resort worker character might turn out to be the killer. With a hint of mischief in her eyes, she responded, "Oh… am I supposed to tell you that?" Kimmel, aware of his futile attempt to squeeze out some spoilers about the tightly guarded plot, playfully said, "Legally you should not, but I would appreciate it if you did."
"I think she’s a sweet girl," LISA said of her character, whose name means "pearl" in Thai, before Kimmel hinted at a less flattering connotation of the word in American slang. He also wondered if the cast and extras freaked out when they saw the K-pop superstar stepping up to the mic during their regular karaoke sessions on set. "They don’t care!" LISA laughed. "I’m just sitting in the corner of the room cheering them on, hyping them up," she explained, adding that she preferred dancing to singing during these sessions.
"I feel weird grabbing the mic and singing karaoke," she smiled, acknowledging the pressure that came with her fame. When asked who the best karaoke singer in the cast was, LISA confidently named Natasha Rothwell, the lone returning actor from season two. "Oh, she’s so good!" she exclaimed with admiration.
She also opened up about the concept behind her newly released solo album, Alter Ego, revealing that while recording it in Los Angeles, she experimented with various styles of music, all of which she ended up adoring. "That’s why I called this album Alter Ego and have five different characters on it," she said, referring to Roxi, Kiki, Sunni, Speedi, and the main character, Vixi. These days, she said, Vixi was the one closest to her true personality, though like Speedi, she loved driving fast in her car.
