On September 8th, police officers made a grim discovery: the remains of Celeste Rivas were found concealed within the trunk of an impounded Tesla. This macabre find came after authorities responded to reports of a putrid odor wafting through the Hollywood tow yard in Los Angeles.
Authorities have stated that both the cause and the precise timing of Rivas's death remain shrouded in mystery. Hailing from Lake Elsinore, California, Rivas was just 13 years old when she vanished. According to a missing person flyer cited by CBS, the BBC's US partner, she was last seen on April 5th, 2024.
Earlier, officers revealed that the Tesla had likely languished at the Hollywood tow yard for "a couple of days" before the gruesome discovery was made. The vehicle, bearing a Texas license plate, had been towed from the Hollywood Hills after being abandoned there five days prior.
The car was registered to 20-year-old David Anthony Burke, better known by his stage name, the singer D4vd. Last week, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner provided a chilling description of the individual whose remains were found: standing at 5 feet 2 inches (157cm) tall, with wavy black hair, and clad in a tube top paired with black leggings. The coroner's office also noted a tattoo on the right index finger that read: "Shhh."
According to law enforcement sources cited by NBC News, the remains were far from intact, suggesting that the girl had been deceased for a considerable length of time.
D4vd, a social media sensation with millions of followers, is best known for his viral hits "Here With Me" and "Romantic Homicide." He released his debut album in April and was in the midst of a tour when the grim discovery was made in the Tesla. The tour's scheduled show in Seattle on Wednesday was subsequently canceled.
Police have confirmed that D4vd is cooperating fully with the investigation.
