This fantastical comedy, promising that your childhood imaginary friends are indeed real, narrowly missed the box office projections, amassing $35 million. Prior to the weekend's kickoff, "IF" was anticipated to rake in at least $40 million during its inaugural release weekend. Based on Friday's attendance, it seemed that "IF" might open to around $30 million, but projections were upwardly revised following Saturday's robust turnout.
Ticket sales were sufficient to secure first place—a respectable feat for an original PG-rated family film—yet it remains a shaky start for a movie that cost a whopping $110 million to produce and millions more to market. Globally, it garnered an additional $20 million, bringing its worldwide tally to $55 million.
