Cardi B's highly anticipated sophomore album has secured a release date, as the superstar revealed on Monday that "Am I the Drama?" will hit the shelves on September 19th, under the label of Atlantic Records. This marks Cardi's long-awaited return to the album scene after seven years, following her groundbreaking debut "Invasion of Privacy" in 2018, which garnered a Grammy for Best Rap Album in 2019 and achieved four-times platinum status. That album was replete with massive hits, notably her breakthrough single "Bodak Yellow" and the diamond-certified collaboration "I Like It" featuring Bad Bunny and J Balvin.
Ever since, fans have eagerly awaited a new album, though it has faced numerous postponements. In the meantime, Cardi has kept her fans satiated with numerous singles, including the global phenomenon "WAP" with Megan Thee Stallion in 2020 and the double-platinum certified "Up" in 2021. Both of these tracks will conclude the 23-track masterpiece that is "Am I the Drama?" In her announcement, Cardi unveiled the album artwork, depicting her in a striking red bodysuit that encases her like a red cocoon, with crows swooping behind her and one perched regally on her foot.
"Seven years of love, life, and loss," Cardi intoned in a voiceover posted on her Instagram account the day before the official announcement. "Seven years I granted them grace, but now, I gift them chaos. I've come to understand that power isn't bestowed, it's seized. I'm shedding my feathers, done with shedding tears. I'm not merely back, I've transcended. The moment has arrived, it's here and now."
Prior to unveiling the album's release date, Cardi dropped her latest single "Outside" last week, marking her first release of 2025. She also captivated audiences with a live performance of the song at Spotify's Cannes Lions event.
