Ed Sheeran made a grand debut with a captivating new song and accompanying music video, heralding the impending release of F1: The Movie. On Thursday, the talented singer unveiled "Drive," a track destined to be a highlight on The F1: The Album. Starring Brad Pitt and helmed by director Joseph Kosinski, the film and its companion album are set to hit the scene on June 27th.
"Drive," a collaboration produced by John Mayer and Blake Slatkin, showcases Mayer's guitar prowess alongside Foo Fighters' Dave Grohl on drums, bassist Pino Paladino, and keyboardist Rami Jaffee. Slatkin also contributed additional keyboards and drum programming, adding depth and complexity to the track.
The F1: The Album was meticulously produced and overseen by Kevin Weaver, president of Atlantic Records' west coast division. Weaver's impressive resume includes producing soundtracks for Barbie The Album, Twisters: The Album, The Greatest Showman, Suicide Squad, Daisy Jones & The Six, and Birds Of Prey, among others. He worked alongside Brandon Davis, EVP and co-head of Pop/Rock A&R at Atlantic Records, and Joseph Khoury, SVP A&R/marketing at Atlantic Records. The album was also executive produced by Kosinski, Jerry Bruckheimer, and music supervisors David Taylor and Jake Voulgarides.
Sheeran joins an illustrious lineup of artists featured on the soundtrack, including Doja Cat, Rosé, Chris Stapleton, Roddy Ricch, Myke Towers, Tate McRae, Burna Boy, and RAYE.
F1: The Movie stars Pitt as Sonny Hayes, a former F1 driver who returns from retirement to mentor and partner with a young rising star, Joshua Pearce (played by Damson Idris). The film also boasts an impressive cast including Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies, Kim Bodnia, and Javier Bardem. Ehren Kruger penned the screenplay, with a story co-created by Kosinski and Kruger. Daniel Lupi served as an executive producer, while Lewis Hamilton, a seven-time world champion and the face of F1, lent his producing talents to the film.
Atlantic Records' F1: The Album is now available for pre-order and will be released in stores and online retailers on Friday, June 27th, coinciding with the theatrical debut of the Warner Bros. Pictures film.
