Renowned British chef Jameson Stocks, in the wake of scathing UK criticism, labeled Meghan Markle's new Netflix venture, "With Love, Meghan," as an excruciating watch. During an interview with GB News on Saturday, Stocks candidly admitted, "I honestly found it dire."
The Michelin-starred culinary expert elaborated, painting a picture of the Duchess of Sussex's lifestyle series as monotonously wearing. "The music drones on, instilling a sense of lethargy, making each moment a chore to endure," Stocks lamented. Furthermore, he proposed that the 43-year-old Markle should reconsider her acting roots, as showcased in her days on "Suits." "She's a competent actress, both in real life and on camera," Stocks remarked. "Individuals should focus on their true calling."
Stocks, who also holds the title of ambassador for King Charles III's Prince's Trust, disclosed that Netflix had approached him to serve as a consultant on Markle's show. "Last year, Netflix inquired if I'd be interested in advising on a lifestyle program. They were vague about the identity of the star, but I had a fair idea," Stocks claimed. However, he politely declined, citing the potential for negative repercussions. "I feared that even if she delivered a stellar show—something I doubted—I might still face flak for being associated with it," he confessed. "The notion of guiding her through tasks, only for it to appear forced and artificial, did not sit well with me. If she intends to venture into something solo, she should do it authentically."
Attempts by Page Six to seek comment from Markle's representatives yielded no immediate response. Meanwhile, Michael Steed, the director of "With Love, Meghan," emphasized that portraying Markle as a chef was never their intention. "Her cooking skills are impressive, but she's not a chef, and the series never aims to suggest otherwise. It merely captures her genuine love for cooking," Steed clarified in an interview with People published on Saturday.
Steed continued, painting a picture of Markle as a relentless hustler and worker. "People have varying perceptions of her, but she is relentless in her pursuits." The eight-episode series, which premiered on March 4, features Markle whipping up meals alongside friends like Mindy Kaling, Abigail Spencer, and chef Roy Choi.
