In the heart-wrenching season finale of Netflix's "Love is Blind," stars Sara Carton and Ben Mezzenga's journey to the altar took an unexpected turn as Carton harbored doubts over Mezzenga's religious and political stances, notably his lack of depth regarding the Black Lives Matter movement. In a poignant scene, Carton confided in her family while riding in the car post-rejection, "I posed the question about Black Lives Matter to him. Now, I'm no authority, but when I inquired, he simply shrugged and said, 'I suppose I never really gave it much thought.' That resonated deeply with me. Especially considering our shared hometown, how could it not impact one's thoughts? How could one remain indifferent?"

In this unique dating experiment, participants endeavor to find their soulmate without ever laying eyes on them. Once a profound connection is established, they propose, finally meeting face-to-face. Engaged couples then embark on planning their wedding amidst the turbulent currents of real life.

Standing at the altar, Carton's voice wavered as she declared, "I adore you immensely, but I've always dreamed of a partner who shares my wavelength." She expressed disappointment at Mezzenga's apparent disinterest in delving deeper. Carton further elaborated that she had inquired about his church and its doctrines, to which he responded with ignorance. She recounted, "I watched an online sermon on sexual identity, embracing traditional views, and shared it with Ben. Yet, he offered little in return. I yearn for someone who ponders over these matters."

Earlier in the season, Mezzenga reassured Carton, who had revealed her sister's homosexuality and her own secularism due to the Catholic Church's stance on gay marriage, that he felt "no discomfort toward that community." Carton admitted that her political awakening stemmed from President Donald Trump's election and the tragic killing of George Floyd in 2020. When she shared this with Mezzenga, he admitted, "I'm somewhat oblivious to these things. I didn't vote in the last election. Ignorance, in my case, isn't bliss—it's indifference. I've kept out of it."

Mezzenga and Carton weren't the only politically discordant couple. Virginia Miller and Devin Buckley also engaged in conversations about their political leanings, despite Buckley's claim of being "not overly invested in politics." Miller, open to diverse perspectives, expressed concern if Buckley held starkly contrasting views on certain issues.
