Channing Tatum hints at major character return in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’

Channing Tatum is dropping tantalizing hints about what's in store for his highly anticipated return as Gambit in *Avengers: Doomsday*. After finally making his long-overdue Marvel debut in *Deadpool & Wolverine* last year, the actor revealed that the upcoming *Avengers* film will raise the stakes to unprecedented heights, leaving fans utterly unprepared for what's coming. "I think they implanted a chip in me so that if I say something foolish, I'll just start having seizures," Tatum joked during his appearance on *The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon*.

He then opened up about the profound significance of embodying the beloved X-Man, sharing just how deeply personal the role is to him. "I get to play my favorite character, Gambit... I was the kid in Pascagoula, Mississippi, hurling cards at my friends in the living room. I always dreamed of being an X-Man, so now to be part of the *Avengers*—it's beyond anything I could've ever imagined," he said.

Tatum also lauded the sheer scale of *Avengers: Doomsday*, noting how the film pushes Marvel's ambition to new extremes. "Every time, they have to outdo themselves. I was like, 'How on earth are they going to pull this off? How can they possibly surpass what they did last time?'" he recounted. "I read the script, and my first thought after finishing it was, 'How in the world are you guys going to make this happen?' And trust me—you're just not ready for what's about to unfold."

The actor's portrayal of Gambit marks a full-circle moment after years of setbacks and missed chances. Tatum was originally set to bring the character to life in *X-Men: The Last Stand* (2006), but the mutant card-thrower was ultimately left on the cutting room floor. When the role resurfaced in *X-Men Origins: Wolverine*, Taylor Kitsch stepped in due to Tatum's scheduling conflicts.

Over the past decade, Tatum's name has been repeatedly linked to various attempts at a Gambit solo film, though none ever progressed beyond development. His surprise cameo in *Deadpool & Wolverine* thrilled fans, with the film also featuring appearances by Chris Evans as Human Torch, Wesley Snipes as Blade, Jennifer Garner as Elektra, and Dafne Keen as X-23.

Now, as the Marvel Cinematic Universe prepares for its next colossal crossover, Tatum's Gambit is officially joining the fray—and by the sound of it, the actor couldn't be more elated.
