Chase Stokes Slams Kelsea Ballerini Fans Over Song Theories

Published: Nov 18 2025

Chase Stokes isn't exactly stoked about the buzz surrounding Kelsea Ballerini's latest musical endeavors. The Outer Banks star took a stand against fans who unleashed a barrage of hateful comments on the "This Feeling" singer after speculations surfaced that one of the songs from her latest EP, Mount Pleasant, was aimed at his ex-girlfriend Madelyn Cline. In a TikTok video shared on November 16, Kelsea, who confirmed her split from Chase in September after nearly three years together, lip-synched to a song from her new project titled "People Pleaser" while exuding a glam all-red look. Captioning the clip, the 32-year-old wrote, "For my fellow people pleasers. I see you."

However, instead of focusing on the message of the video, some users used the post as an opportunity to take shots at Kelsea for another song from her EP, titled "Emerald City," which fans have theorized is about her feeling like she has to compete with Chase's Outer Banks costar Madelyn, whom he dated from 2020 to 2021. "Disappointed by your Emerald song but I'd be jealous too," one user wrote, while another added, "the concept of your music being meant to [uplift] women whilst bringing another one down."

In response to the backlash, Chase spoke out in defense of Kelsea, commenting under the video, "These comments are f--king weird. Grow up." Indeed, the 33-year-old has made it clear that he still has Kelsea's back after her rep announced the pair had called it quits three months ago. In fact, the duo even sparked reconciliation rumors earlier this month when they were spotted together in Croatia, where Chase is currently filming the fifth season of Outer Banks alongside cast mates Madelyn, Drew Starkey, Madison Bailey, and Jonathan Daviss.

While neither Chase nor Kelsea have confirmed or denied getting back together, they are united on one thing: They will not tolerate the rumor mill. After all, Kelsea similarly slammed "speculators" about the breakup back in September. “CC: speculators, ‘sources’, and hidden cameras outside the hair salon,” Kelsea captioned a video posted to TikTok at the time. “Let us be. please.”
