The NBC medical drama "Chicago Med" is set to embark on its momentous tenth season with the triumphant return of three original cast members: S. Epatha Merkerson, Oliver Platt, and Marlyne Barrett. As confirmed by TVLine, they have all signed new deals that will extend their tenure in the show until the 2024-25 season.

Chicago Med: S. Epatha Merkerson, Oliver Platt Returning for Season 10 1

"Chicago Med" delves into the daily emotional turmoil of the city's newest trauma center, chronicling the lives of doctors, nurses, and staff who work tirelessly to keep the institution afloat. Merkerson, a 2005 Emmy winner for her stellar portrayal in HBO's "Lackawanna Blues," reprises her role as Sharon Goodwin, the formidable chief administrator of Gaffney Chicago Medical Center. Platt returns as Dr. Daniel Charles, the head of the psychiatry department, while Barrett shines as Maggie Lockwood, the dynamic charge nurse of the emergency department.

However, not all is rosy in the world of "Chicago Med." Recent changes include the departure of Dominic Rains, who has graced the show since Season 5 as trauma surgeon Dr. Crockett Marcel. He will not be a part of the upcoming tenth season. And Rains' exit is not the only farewell for long-time members of the "Med" family. Diane Frolov and Andy Schneider, who have steered the medical drama since its 2015 inception, stepped down from their leadership roles in early April. Taking the reins for Season 10 is Allen MacDonald, best known for his work on Prime Video's "Harlan Coben's Shelter," ready to bring a fresh perspective to the show.
