Chris Evans, who donned the iconic shield and suit of Captain America for Marvel across eight films, opened up about his departure from the role following his exit in "Avengers: Endgame" back in 2019. In that emotional farewell, Evans' Captain America aged after journeying back in time to return the Infinity Stones, ultimately choosing to remain in the past with his beloved Peggy Carter and bestowing the Captain America shield upon Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson.

During a candid chat with ScreenRant, the "Materialists" star was quizzed about whether he still keeps in touch with his former MCU cohorts, given his absence from the upcoming "Avengers: Doomsday."

"Yeah, I talk to them all the time. In fact, Pedro [Pascal] is one of them now," Evans shared, a hint of nostalgia in his voice. "It's undeniably tough being on the sidelines," he added. "It's like missing out on a reunion with the band you once played with so passionately."

The "Red One" actor went on to muse, "I'm certain they're crafting something truly magnificent, and I can only imagine how much harder it will hit when it premieres, knowing I wasn't part of the invite. It's like standing outside the party, hearing the laughter and music but unable to join in."

While Evans remains on the periphery, his fellow Avengers Chris Hemsworth (Thor) and Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man) are gearing up for a triumphant return in the eagerly anticipated film. However, Downey Jr.'s comeback will see him don a darker mantle as the villainous Doctor Doom.

Joining Hemsworth and Downey Jr. are Sebastian Stan (Winter Soldier), Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Letitia Wright (Shuri), Mackie (now donning the Captain America mantle), and several other familiar faces who are set to revisit the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

"Avengers: Doomsday," originally slated for a May 1, 2026, release, has been rescheduled to December 18, 2026. Similarly, its sequel, "Avengers: Secret Wars," has also been postponed to December 17, 2027.
