CMA Awards 2025: Megan Moroney Reveals How Heartbreak Inspired Her New Music

Published: Nov 21 2025

Megan Moroney's upcoming album isn't a melancholic playlist for the broken-hearted, but it may touch on those emotional depths. As the country singer shared at the 2025 CMA Awards on November 19, her forthcoming project, titled Cloud 9 and slated for release on February 20, 2026, is a reflection of her life experiences, both the exhilarating and the tumultuous aspects of love. "I literally write about my real life," she said exclusively to E! News. "There will undoubtedly be songs on the album that make you want to piece together the shattered pieces of your heart."

When asked if the album leans more towards love or heartbreak, the "Tennessee Orange" singer replied with a hint of both. And for Megan, whose single "6 Months Later" was performed in a glittering pink ensemble at the awards ceremony, the girly aesthetic behind her music goes beyond a mere style choice.

"I chose pink because I think there's a softness to this music that's absent in my other albums," she told Variety in an interview published on November 19. "It stems from the confidence I have now. It's about falling in love and falling out of love, but when you're truly confident, it's not the end of the world if it doesn't work out."

She continued, "In my previous albums, I may have perceived it as the end of the world. But this new music is carefree and confident. So I thought pink was the perfect color to feel empowering and confident, yet soft—and that's what the new music is like."

Despite the upbeat vibe of her upcoming record, she emphasized that "there are still some heartbreakers." "Writing sad songs comes easily to me, for whatever reason," she added. "But even in the saddest songs, there's so much hope and confidence that it'll be okay—a new theme I explored in this album."
