Chris Martin gave it his all, yet fell just short of nailing that fan interaction moment. The lead singer of Coldplay harbored a hint of guilt after playfully teasing a couple who were reluctant to engage with the jumbotron during the band's July 15 concert in Foxborough, Massachusetts. As captured in videos that quickly went viral on social media, the unsuspecting duo, caught on the big screen, abruptly ended their embrace and scurried out of sight. "They must either be having an affair or are incredibly shy," Chris joked, swiftly followed by contrition for unwittingly singling them out. "Oh shoot, I hope we didn't cause any offense."
Later in the show, the 48-year-old musician poked fun at his own on-stage gaffe when the camera panned to another couple in the audience. With a wry smile, he quipped, "Are you two an actual item?"
However, this wasn't the first time Chris stumbled during his Music of the Spheres World Tour. During the Toronto stop on July 8, he missed his cue and botched the lyrics to his 2014 megahit "A Sky Full of Stars." "I messed up, I'm really sorry," he apologized to the audience, as evidenced in a TikTok video posted by an attendee. "I forgot to come in at the right line."
He went on, "Usually, I'd stop the song as a joke, but I genuinely made a big mistake this time, so please forgive me." Labeling his blunder an "actual mess-up," Chris then sought solace among his bandmates – Jonny Buckland, Guy Berryman, and Will Champion, who had halted their playing.
"This is the upside of being in a band with your brothers for 30 years," the singer shared after a brief conference with the rest of Coldplay. "I forgot the words. I forgot what to say. It happens occasionally when you're my age." With a playful twist, he added to the fans, "Please, don't post that on YouTube."
