"Percy Jackson and the Olympians" has welcomed its new ruler of the heavens in the form of Emmy Award-winner Courtney B. Vance, who has embarked on a mythical journey to portray Zeus in the Disney+ series. Vance steps into the shoes of the late Lance Reddick, who left an indelible mark as Zeus in the series' inaugural season. "I am thrilled beyond measure to join the stellar ensemble of 'Percy Jackson and the Olympians,'" Vance expressed in a heartfelt statement. "There are rare instances in an actor's voyage where one can board a show with such an avid fan following, populated by globally cherished characters, and rooted in a phenomenonally successful book series. I foresee my portrayal of Zeus as a cherished memory, and through it, I shall pay a celestial tribute to my late brother, Lance Reddick, whom we lost too soon, with a celestial hug."
The second chapter of "Percy Jackson's" adventures is currently under construction and is geared up for a grand premiere sometime in the forthcoming year. Vance joins an expanded ensemble for the upcoming season, alongside Daniel Diemer, Tamara Smart, Andra Day, and guest appearances by Sandra Bernhard, Margaret Cho, and Kristen Schaal.
This season draws inspiration from "The Sea of Monsters," the second installment in Rick Riordan's beloved Percy Jackson saga. A year has passed since the events of season one, and Percy (Walker Scobell) returns to Camp Half-Blood to discover his world in disarray. His bond with Annabeth (Leah Sava Jeffries) is evolving, he learns of a cyclops sibling, Grover (Aryan Simhadri) is missing, and the camp is under attack by Kronos' forces. Percy's quest to restore balance leads him into uncharted territories and the perilous Sea of Monsters, where a fate shrouded in secrecy awaits him.
Riordan serves as an executive producer for season two alongside showrunners Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz, alongside Rebecca Riordan, Craig Silverstein, Bert Salke, The Gotham Group's Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, Jeremy Bell, and D.J. Goldberg, James Bobin, Jim Rowe, Albert Kim, Jason Ensler, and Sarah Watson.
