Cynthia Erivo Goes for Feathered and Futuristic at Wicked: For Good’s NYC Premiere

Cynthia Erivo's red carpet appearance at the New York premiere of the Broadway adaptation's second act, Wicked: For Good, should be held up as a fashion-forward masterpiece that would make even Glinda the Good envious. For the Nov. 17 event, Cynthia dazzled in a Balenciaga gown in all-black, with a cropped leather top adorned with draped feathers around the hem and on the long leather sleeves. The black satin bodice and train of the dress flowed down in a majestic fashion, trailing behind her as she walked.

Perhaps the most eye-catching aspect of the 38-year-old's look, however, were the large-framed, futuristic sunglasses that she sported while posing on the premiere's black carpet. Cynthia turned heads during the New York premiere, but this was not her first time defying gravity on the Wicked: For Good tour with her fashion choices. In fact, for the London premiere of the film on Nov. 10, she sported a custom navy Prada gown with black leather sleeves and trim, paired with a leather belt around her waist.

But perhaps her most viral fashion moment so far was when a fan named Clara reunited the Tony Award winner with her Schiaparelli hat that she left behind at last year's London premiere. "We deserve each other," Cynthia wrote on Instagram Nov. 11 alongside a video of her wearing the cap, referencing lyrics from Wicked's "Dancing Through Life." "Thank you very much Clara!"

Beyond her passion for her red carpet style for Wicked, Cynthia has been vocal about the bond she built with costar Ariana Grande throughout her experience as Elphaba. The "Color Purple" alum described herself and the "Positions" singer as "opposite sides of the same coin," sharing that "We each have something the other can love and can see themselves." In a joint interview with Ariana published Nov. 12, Cynthia told Today's Sheinelle Jones, "It's super honest with each other."

Ariana, who also stars alongside Jonathan Bailey, Michelle Yeoh, Jeff Goldblum, Marissa Bode, and Ethan Slater, agreed with her counterpart. "To be able to act with this one and to share a space and to be a scene partner with you was the greatest privilege of my professional life," Ariana added. "Let alone sing with her, the greatest singer in the entire world. I'm spoiled for life." In response, Cynthia tearfully added, "Thank you. I love you."
