Dakota Johnson has ensnared a fresh creature in her life's intricate web. Hardly a week had passed since her split with Chris Martin came to light when the "Material Girls" starlet revealed she had welcomed a new furry bundle of joy into her world – a puppy named Tokyo, adopted from the Santa Barbara Humane Society in sunny California.

"We rescued her on Saturday from the Santa Barbara shelter," Dakota confided to podcast host Amy Poehler during the June 10th episode of 'Good Hang.' "It wasn't something I had planned," she admitted.

The 35-year-old actress elaborated, sharing that she was still navigating the loss of her beloved dog Zeppelin, who had passed away in December at the ripe old age of 17. It was during this time of healing that she stumbled upon the adorable brown-and-white pup. "I thought it would take some time," Dakota recalled fondly. "But then I saw her, and she's a veritable angel."

Tokyo, it seems, is already making herself at home. Dakota, who brought her new best friend along to the podcast, noted with amusement that the puppy's playful antics inside the recording studio were a recent development. "She's a performer," Dakota quipped as Tokyo began to sniff curiously at her microphone. "Honestly, she's come alive on camera. Normally, she hides at the back of her crate, so timid. Now, she's like, 'Here I am, world!'" Addressing her pup directly, she playfully teased, "You're an actress just like your mom!"

Just six days prior to Tokyo's grand entrance into the spotlight, news outlets buzzed with reports that Dakota and Chris, 48, had decided to part ways after nearly eight years together. While Dakota has yet to publicly comment on the breakup, she has shared her non-negotiable requirement for future relationships. "Just, like, not an asshole," she candidly told Craig Melvin on the June 9th episode of 'Today.'

And what other vital trait might her future partner possess? A love for dogs, without a doubt. Dakota has previously spoken of the pivotal role her late dog played in her life. "We've basically grown up together," she said of Zeppelin in a June 2024 interview with 'TalkHouse.' "He's incredibly smart, sweet, perfect, and soulful. He's always been a healing presence for people, so I had him certified as an emotional support animal. It's the sweetest thing ever."
