‘Deadpool’ Creator Calls For Marvel’s Kevin Feige To “Get Off The Mound” After ‘Captain America: Brave New World’s Box Office Crash: “He’s Spent”

Deadpool's co-creator, Rob Liefeld, had some pointed words for Marvel Studios' Kevin Feige after witnessing the box office results of Captain America: Brave New World. The post-Avengers: Endgame era has proven to be a trying time for Marvel at the box office, with only a handful of bright spots like Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and Deadpool & Wolverine shining through.

The second weekend box office results for Captain America: Brave New World revealed a steep 68% week-to-week drop, marking it as the third-largest decline in the Marvel Cinematic Universe's history. Only The Marvels, with a 78% plummet, and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, also at 68%, fared worse.

In the wake of these discouraging Brave New World figures, Liefeld took to X (the rebranded Twitter) to voice his concerns. "Get Feige off the mound. He's spent," he posted bluntly. Liefeld then cited numerous Marvel films that had suffered similar second-weekend box office collapses exceeding 60%, further emphasizing in another X post that "the MCU is on an extended downside."

"This is beyond a mere trend; it's become the new normal," Liefeld lamented. "If this were sports, Feige would already be benched. The Marvel brand is akin to legendary teams like the Dodgers, Lakers, Yankees, and Celtics, where even championship-winning coaches are shown the door when results disappoint."

In yet another X post, he added, "Eight movies have tanked in the last three years. Don't we deserve better films? You get a surge of curiosity, then a plunge into mediocrity."

Earlier this year, Liefeld had already opened up about feeling snubbed by Marvel during the Deadpool & Wolverine premiere in 2024. On the Robservations podcast, he recounted how he was ignored by Feige on the red carpet and discovered that his family hadn't been invited to the afterparty. The comic book legend also shared that while he had posed for photos with Deadpool & Wolverine creatives on the red carpet, he later learned that those photos were deleted and only taken as a courtesy to appease him.
