As Netflix's exhilarating adventure series "Outer Banks" sails towards its fifth and culminating season, one of its breakout stars, Drew Starkey, has embarked on a new voyage by joining the ensemble of Apple TV+'s limited series "Lucky." This star-studded venture is headlined and executive produced by Anya Taylor-Joy, with Reese Witherspoon also serving as an executive producer. Starkey's addition complements a main cast adorned with luminaries such as Annette Bening, Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, and Timothy Olyphant.
Penned by Jonathan Tropper, inspired by Marissa Stapley's bestselling novel—and chosen by Reese's Book Club under the same title—"Lucky" revolves around a young woman (Taylor-Joy) who, years ago, abandoned the life of crime she was raised in. Now, she is compelled to rekindle her darker, criminal past in a harrowing bid to escape her haunting history.
In a role billed as significantly recurring, Starkey will embody Cary, the devoted husband of Lucky (Taylor-Joy). Hailing from Apple Studios, "Lucky" is co-showrun and executive produced by Tropper through his Tropper Ink banner, part of his overall deal with Apple TV+, alongside co-showrunner Cassie Pappas. The series is also executive produced by Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter for Hello Sunshine, a division of Candle Media. Taylor-Joy takes on an executive producer role through her production banner, Ladykiller. Jonathan Van Tulleken will helm several episodes, including the pilot, while also serving as an executive producer.
Recently, Starkey shone as the co-lead alongside Daniel Craig in Luca Guadagnino's film "Queer," which premiered to acclaim at the 2024 Venice International Film Festival. Prior to that, he captivated audiences in the 2023 romantic comedy "The Other Zoey."
On television, Starkey is well-known for his series regular role as the reformed bad boy Rafe Cameron in "Outer Banks." He also made a memorable impact with a recurring arc on Prime Video's "The Terminal List." Represented by Gersh and Goodman Genow Schenkman, Starkey continues to chart a course through the entertainment firmament with each captivating performance.
