Demi Lovato is radiating confidence, and she attributes much of it to her blossoming relationship. The "Cool for the Summer" singer revealed that her ninth studio album, *It’s Not That Deep*—set to release on October 24—signals the triumphant return of "Popvato," a reinvention fueled in part by her husband, Jutes.
“I think this album is truly a reflection of where I am personally,” Demi shared with *Paper Magazine* in an interview published on September 15. “I’m not in a phase of my life where I feel the need to pour out these massive emotional ballads to release some deep-seated trauma I’m grappling with.”
The 33-year-old artist explained that when she first began crafting songs for the new album, she gravitated toward heavier themes. However, she soon realized these tracks didn’t resonate with her inner state. Instead, she found herself drawn to lighter, more uplifting material—a shift that became even more pronounced after her May wedding to the rapper and songwriter (whose real name is Jordan Lutes).
“Right now, my energy feels incredibly light,” Demi continued. “I just got married. It was a bit of a learning curve for me to take what I’ve always known about music—write what you know—and apply it to something new. I had to learn how to channel what felt fresh and authentic to me in this moment, and that’s exactly what this album embodies.”
The Disney Channel alum added that because the overall tone of her life has become “lighter,” she wanted her music to mirror that sense of ease and joy.
And that’s precisely the vibe she’s bringing to *It’s Not That Deep*—a title that not only defines the album but also encapsulates how Demi views her current musical direction.
“That’s the energy I want to infuse into this project through the music,” she shared. “I just want to be happy. That’s the core of what this album represents for me.”
Jutes, 34, hasn’t just influenced Demi’s music; he’s played a pivotal role in elevating her entire outlook on life.
“I’ve waited my whole life for him,” Demi told *People* in 2024, two years after the couple first started dating. “Having a partner who is so incredibly supportive, loving, and caring is incredibly grounding. It’s easy to stay centered with him because I love him so deeply, and he treats me with such amazing kindness.”
