Demi Moore is lending her unwavering support to Bruce Willis' wife, Emma Heming Willis. Soon after Emma disclosed that the legendary "Die Hard" actor is now living apart from her and their daughters, Mabel, 13, and Evelyn, 11, amidst his battle with frontotemporal dementia (FTD), Demi, the star of "Substance," came to Emma's defense, commending her decisions to support Bruce.
"Occupying the position of an ex-wife, despite our family's close bonds, is quite an intriguing situation," said Demi, 62, during the September 2nd episode of Oprah Winfrey's eponymous podcast. "Emma bore the brunt of navigating this complex journey, and what struck me most was her recognition of the caregivers' significance and their need for self-care. If they neglect to prioritize their own well-being, they can't effectively support anyone else."
Indeed, Emma, 47, has been vocal about her role as Bruce's caregiver since the Willis family revealed his FTD diagnosis in February 2023. Yet, she hasn't embarked on this journey solo; Demi, alongside Bruce and Emma's daughters Rumer Willis, 36, Scout Willis, 33, and Tallulah Willis, have stood by his side in recent years. As Emma, who married Bruce in 2009, continues to share heart-wrenching updates on his condition, Demi has lauded her relentless commitment to being present for him.
"As a young woman, I hold immense compassion for Emma in this situation," she continued. "No one could have foreseen this journey, and I genuinely believe she's handled it with remarkable skill. She has been devoted to forging the right path, displaying equal measures of fear, strength, and courage throughout this challenging navigation."
In fact, Demi, the actress known for her role in "Disclosure," believes Emma's upcoming book, "The Unexpected Journey: Finding Strength, Hope, and Yourself on the Caregiving Path," will prove "immensely beneficial to countless individuals traversing a similar path" with their loved ones.
Later in the interview, Demi revealed that witnessing her ex-husband, with whom she has remained close friends since their divorce in 2000, "transition into this new phase" of himself has been challenging. However, she holds a unique perspective that fuels her hope amidst his condition.
"It's crucial to meet them where they are," Demi explained. "Don't hold expectations of them needing to be who they once were or who you want them to be. When you do this, I find that an extraordinary sweetness, softness, tenderness, and love emerge."
