Jamie Lee Curtis cherishes a poignant anecdote about her encounter, albeit missed, with the late Princess Diana. The star of "Freaky Friday" unveiled the heartfelt letter she received from Princess Diana after unfortunately missing the chance to meet her and her sons, Prince William and Prince Harry, during their visit to the UK set of her 1997 film "Fierce Creatures."
"We were immersed in filming deep within the Pinewood forest," Jamie elaborated in an Instagram post on September 1. "When we finally paused for a break, I hopped into a golf cart and raced the mile back to the dressing room block to attend to nature's call. My driver started knocking frantically on the door, announcing her arrival with her sons. I jumped back into the golf cart, but by the time I returned, she was already walking away. I couldn't very well chase after her to express my immense admiration."
The Oscar-winner subsequently penned a letter to Diana and had it delivered to Kensington Palace. "The very next day," Jamie continued, "I received a response from her, thanking me for writing and understanding that nature's call can strike at any moment, as it did for her frequently, adding that she looked forward to meeting me."
The letter took on an even more poignant tone when Jamie learned of Diana's tragic death two months later on August 31, 1997, from injuries sustained in a car crash in Paris alongside her partner Dodi al-Fayed. She was just 36 years old.
"I had just returned from England," recalled the "Halloween" actress. "I vividly remember watching the news and then turning it off, knowing the impact it would have and the repetitive footage of that tunnel."
Although Diana's untimely demise was heart-wrenching for Jamie, she has since reflected on the incredible legacy the royal left behind. "I genuinely believed she had mastered the art of living wisely," said the 66-year-old. "We all cherish the image of her with arms outstretched, embracing her sons as they ran towards her. She loved them in a manner unparalleled by any royal before her, and she genuinely cherished the world. She loved deeply and authentically."
Jamie added, "Even though, to this day, I am still moved by her grace and courage, I am also comforted knowing that she lived a mindful, wise, and loving life."
