"Downton Abbey" weaves a real-life romantic tale. Indeed, co-stars Laura Carmichael and Michael C. Fox—who portray Lady Edith and Andrew Parker, respectively—have revealed that they've since tied the knot. In celebration of the series, which is poised to conclude with the film "Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale," Michael fondly reflected on the extraordinary blessings he's reaped since joining the show's cast.
"I owe so much to this show," Michael, 36, remarked on the "Downton Abbey Celebrates The Grand Finale" special, which aired on NBC on September 10. "I think a significant portion of my life has been molded by this experience."
Prompting the actor to elaborate, Lesley Nicol—who brings Mrs. Patmore to life—posed a whimsical question to both Michael and Laura: "What if someone had told you that you'd actually find your wife and have a child here? Life-altering stuff, indeed."
"I know," Michael beamed with excitement, "It's truly incredible."
Both Michael and Laura, 39—who, according to Today.com, welcomed their first child together in 2021—chose not to divulge further details about their wedding. Despite their preference for privacy regarding their relationship, Michael and Laura weren't shy about displaying public displays of affection (PDA) as they marked the end of "Downton Abbey's" storied run.
During the September 3 premiere of "Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale" in London, the couple shared a tender embrace as they posed together on the red carpet. Laura, resplendent in a floral halter dress adorned with lace details, stood beside Michael, who donned a sleek black suit.
A month earlier, the pair opted for a more casual outing as they enjoyed a date night at the afterparty for "Farewell Mr. Haffmann" in London. Prior to exchanging vows, Michael had previously opened up about working alongside his then-girlfriend on the series and subsequent films.
"It was fascinating returning to work together," Michael shared on "This Morning" in September 2019. "But once we're back on set, there's a big team, a family atmosphere, and we manage to keep our personal lives slightly separate. Nonetheless, it's an absolute joy."
