Dylan Carter, a country singer hailing from South Carolina who graced the stage during Season 24 of NBC's The Voice in 2023, tragically lost his life in a car accident on April 25th, Saturday. He was just 24 years old. The incident occurred in Colleton County, SC, and was announced by The Local Voice, a South Carolina non-profit organization he co-founded to support women battling cancer.
Law enforcement sources informed TMZ that Carter's 2026 Tesla sedan was traveling southbound on U.S. Route 21 at around 11 p.m. when it veered off the road, struck a pole and a fence, and then rolled over. The coroner confirmed that Carter was the sole occupant of the car and was wearing a seatbelt. He was rushed to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. According to the Colleton County coroner, Carter died of blunt-force injuries sustained in the crash, and his death was ruled accidental.
"With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Dylan Carter, co-founder of The Local Voice, a talented musician, and a dear soul who meant so much to our community," the organization wrote on its Facebook page. "Dylan was the heart and soul of what we do. He believed that every voice mattered and lived that belief every day. Through his music, kindness, and infectious smile, he brought people together and made everyone feel seen."
The post further reads, "We are heartbroken, but find comfort in knowing he is in heaven with his mother. We are so grateful for Dylan, for the love he gave this community, and for the impact he leaves behind. We will carry his light forward and continue this mission in his honor."
Carter, described as a "proud Lowcountry native," owned Sunny Days RV & Campground and worked as a realtor. He impressed Voice judges in 2023 with his audition performance of Whitney Houston's "I Look to You," choosing Reba McEntire as his coach. He explained that he was a longtime fan and that his audition was in honor of his late mother, who had passed away the year before.
Carter had been scheduled to perform a concert in Moncks Corner, South Carolina, on April 27th. Today, Mayor Thomas Hamilton Jr. of Moncks Corner posted a tribute to Carter on Facebook. "Our family is heartbroken to hear about the passing of Dylan Carter in a car accident," Hamilton writes. "As a gifted singer, he frequently entertained our community with his performances at Town events. His kindness and charm earned him immense respect, and his absence will be deeply felt."
The mayor continues, "To the loved ones and acquaintances of Dylan, we offer our sincerest condolences during this difficult period. The Town of Moncks Corner, its Council, and entire staff extend their deepest sympathies. He was much more than an entertainer; he was our friend, and we are deeply saddened."
