As Vice President Harris aspirations turn towards embracing the title of President, she has already been elevated to iconic status by Ebony magazine. At its esteemed annual Power 100 awards ceremony, scheduled for November 17th, Ebony has bestowed upon her the honor of "Icon of the Year."
"Born to parents who were pivotal figures during the Civil Rights Movement, I have always been inspired by heroes such as Thurgood Marshall – the same icons whose stories have adorned the pages of Ebony. It is both a profound honor and a humbling experience to be recognized as the 2024 Ebony Icon of the Year," Vice President Kamala Harris expressed in a statement filled with emotion.
Usher has been named the "Global Visionary of the Year," adding another feather to his illustrious cap. Among the other outstanding individuals celebrated this year are actress, singer, and cast member of Universal Pictures' Wicked, Cynthia Erivo (recognized as the "Pathbreaker of the Year"), Uncle Nearest, the fastest-growing whiskey brand in the US ("Entrepreneur of the Year"), Dr. Kimberlé Crenshaw (recipient of the Humanitarian Award), and Da’Vine Joy Randolph, who will receive the People’s Choice Award – the sole category where the public gets to cast their votes at the 2024 Ebony Power 100.
"After spending over three decades in the entertainment industry, I am deeply touched to continue receiving such monumental recognitions," Usher shared with heartfelt gratitude. "This award transcends personal achievement; it embodies the collective culture we have nurtured together. Thank you, Ebony, for this prestigious honor."
Ebony's Power 100 serves as a tribute to the foremost trailblazers and luminous figures in Black America. This year's ceremony, hosted by the dynamic duo of Michelle Buteau and Tone Bell, promises to be a night of unforgettable celebrations.
