Ed Sheeran opened up candidly about his online persona, a side many fans might not be privy to. The "Photograph" hitmaker is no stranger to social media, with an active presence on official platforms like Facebook and TikTok. However, he also harbors a secret account tucked away on Instagram. During his appearance at SiriusXM's Small Stage Series in New York City, Sheeran was quizzed about whether he maintained a "Finsta"—a playful term for a fake or secondary Instagram account.
"Yes," Sheeran confirmed with a nod.
Curious, the host pressed further, "When you're lurking on your Finsta, do you indulge in a bit of ex-stalking? Or what's your typical Finsta behavior?"
The "Sapphire" singer revealed that his Finsta escapades are more about staying abreast of cultural trends and music. "I felt like, when I didn't have a Finsta, I was missing out on so much—new music, emerging artists. Now, I'm plugged into pockets of the internet that truly interest me," he shared.
He went on to disclose that his top passions include "British rap music" and a genuine love for "Irish folk music." Continuing, he said, "I'm also a watch aficionado, so I frequent watch blogs and similar sites," noting that he wouldn't necessarily stumble upon content outside these niches. "I'm very selective, sticking to what I like. My algorithm is pretty much tuned into music and watches," he added with a smile.
Despite his online engagement, the Grammy winner is mindful of taking social media breaks, especially towards the end of the year. Back in 2023, Sheeran embarked on a social media hiatus, citing "some turbulent times" in his life. "I just didn't feel like pretending to be someone I'm not online, especially when I wasn't feeling myself," he explained at the time.
