Ellen DeGeneres is endeavoring to mend fences with Rosie O'Donnell. Following President Donald Trump's post on Truth Social contemplating the "revocation" of O'Donnell's United States citizenship, and her spirited rebuttal, DeGeneres stepped forward to lend her unwavering support. Sharing screenshots of Trump and O'Donnell's exchange on Instagram on July 13, the former Ellen DeGeneres Show host, who had recently relocated to England with her wife, Portia de Rossi, tagged The View veteran and exclaimed, "Bravo!"
Meanwhile, O'Donnell, who had shifted to Ireland just prior to Trump's January inauguration, fiercely defended herself. "Hey Donald, are you rattled once more?" posted O'Donnell, mother to Parker, 30, Chelsea, 27, Blake, 25, Vivienne, 22, and her adopted son Clay, 12, alongside a picture of Trump and Jeffrey Epstein on her Instagram on the same day. "Eighteen years hence, and I continue to reside rent-free in your crumbling psyche. You label me a peril to humanity, yet I embody all you dread—a vocal woman, a queer woman who speaks the unvarnished truth."
The Now and Then star delved deeper into the rationale behind her move to Ireland with her 12-year-old son. "You construct barriers," she continued. "I establish a fulfilling life for my autistic child in a nation where decency still thrives." She further added, "You contemplate revoking my citizenship? By all means, endeavor it, King Joffrey with your tangerine hue. I am not yours to muzzle, nor have I ever been."
DeGeneres' public display of solidarity with O'Donnell transpires mere months after O'Donnell acknowledged the pair's long-standing rift. "It's not as though we are fiercely opposed to one another," O'Donnell revealed in an April interview with US Weekly. "We are merely very different individuals. There have been unresolved issues from the past, not as partners or lovers, but as friends and comedians. Nevertheless, I wish her well. I truly do."
O'Donnell expressed surprise at DeGeneres' decision to relocate to England in the wake of Trump's reelection. "I've rarely known Ellen to voice political opinions," she continued. "So, I was astonished to learn she left due to President Trump. It actually shocked me."
As for O'Donnell, she believed her move across the globe would not raise many eyebrows. "I was transparent about my reasons for leaving, and I don't believe it came as a surprise to anyone," she concluded.
