Ellen DeGeneres Returning as Dory in New Finding Nemo Project, Her First Acting Role in 5 Years

Ellen DeGeneres is all set to dive back into the world of her beloved character, Dory, the voice of the blue tang fish in a new short film nestled within the magical realm of 'Finding Nemo', as reported by Deadline. At this juncture, no further details have been unveiled. Ellen first enchanted audiences as Dory in the 2003 Oscar-winning Best Animated Feature, 'Finding Nemo', and has since reprised her role numerous times, most notably in the 2016 global sensation 'Finding Dory,' which amassed over $1 billion at the box office.

This latest venture marks Ellen's first role since the 2021 mini-series 'Pixar Popcorn,' where she once again voiced Dory, and her appearance as herself in Kevin Hart's 'True Story' that same year. Since the conclusion of 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show' in 2022, Ellen has been candid about her decision to step away from Hollywood, particularly in light of allegations concerning a toxic work environment. In fact, it was a topic she delved into during her 2024 stand-up special 'Ellen DeGeneres: For Your Approval.'

"Well, let me fill you in on what's been happening with me since we last met," she told her audience in the Netflix special. "I've taken up gardening and even got some chickens. Let me see what else I can tell you about my recent endeavors." She then feigned to check her notes before quipping, "Oh yeah, I got kicked out of show business."

"The headline read, 'The Be Kind Girl wasn't kind,'" Ellen continued. "The issue is, I'm a comedian who hosts a talk show and ended each episode with the phrase, 'Be kind to one another.' If I had ended my show with something like, 'Go f--k yourselves,' people would have been pleasantly surprised to discover that I'm actually kind."

Prior to the special's release, Ellen—who relocated to England with her wife Portia de Rossi in 2024—hinted that audiences might not see her on their screens again after the Netflix project. "This is the last time you're going to see me," she told the crowd during a performance in Santa Rosa, California, in July 2024. "After my Netflix special, I'm done."
