Helena Bonham Carter is leaving The White Lotus sooner than expected. Just nine days after production began in France for the fourth season of the Mike White-created series, HBO confirmed that the Harry Potter actress would no longer be a part of the show.
"With filming just underway on season four of The White Lotus, it had become apparent that the character which Mike White created for Helena Bonham Carter did not align once on set," an HBO spokesperson shared in a statement to E! News on April 24. "The role has subsequently been rethought, is being rewritten, and will be recast in the coming weeks."

The spokesperson also noted that Mike, his team, and the network were "saddened" to no longer be working with the two-time Oscar nominee but emphasized that they all remained "ardent fans and very much hope to work with the legendary actress on another project soon."
E! News reached out to a representative for Helena for comment but has not received a response.
Though a replacement for the Crown alum has not yet been named, season four continues to have a stacked cast, including Kumail Nanjiani, Rosie Perez, Max Greenfield, Heather Graham, and Steve Coogan. Plus, Mike's longtime friend Sandra Bernhard is set to make her White Lotus debut.
"What made me beg Mike White for 25 years as his friend, to say, 'When are you writing me a star-turning role?'" the comedian told E! News last month. "'Mike, what do I have [to do]?' Alas, Sandra added, "He loves me. We love each other. And he finally said, 'This is it. This is the season.' This is it, and it's the right time."
Aside from being set in France, details on season four, including the plot and characters, have been kept under wraps. But even with minimal information available, season three star and Helena's fellow Harry Potter alum Jason Isaacs admitted he was full of "pure jealousy" for the incoming cast.
"I've got friends who are going to be in it," he told Entertainment Tonight in January. "And they're going to have the ride of their lives." As he put it, "There aren't many people—in fact there's nobody—writing and directing like Mike White."
