Elmo Calls Out Taylor Swift Over Having a Rock in Her "Opalite" Video

Published: Feb 07 2026

Elmo might not be hosting Taylor Swift on Sesame Street anytime soon. In fact, the iconic character addressed his feelings after the premiere of the singer's "Opalite" music video on February 2. Taylor appeared in the music video as the Lonely Girl, whose best friend is a rock until she falls for the Lonely Boy. Elmo felt triggered.

"Ms. Taylor Swift," the eternal 3.5-year-old wrote in a February 6 post on X. "You have got to be kidding, Elmo." Indeed, Elmo's tweet was a callback to his longstanding beef with his bestie Zoe's best friend, the aptly named rock, Rocco. In a video shared in 2022, Elmo lost his cool when Zoe seemingly put Rocco's friendship before him. After clarifying that he and Zoe made up, he confirmed, "Elmo doesn't want to talk about Rocco."

As for his relationship with the "Fate of Ophelia" singer following the rocky cameo? That's still TBD as she has not responded to Elmo yet. Of course, Rocco was just one of the many stars who made an appearance in Taylor's latest video. The "Opalite" visuals became a reunion of sorts as she reunited with the same panel of celebrities including Domhnall Gleeson, Jodie Turner Smith, Greta Lee, Lewis Capaldi, and Cillian Murphy, who appeared alongside her on The Graham Norton Show around her Life of a Showgirl album's release in October.

What's more, host Graham Norton—who already secured his invite to Taylor's wedding to Travis Kelce—also appeared in the video. And while the random group of celebrities came together to callback to '80s informercials, Taylor admitted that the idea came to light upon her fateful interaction on the couch with the group. Specifically, when The Vow alum quipped about the many celebs who've gotten the T-Swift music video call over the years—a group he was not among at the time.

"I remember thinking I got ridiculously lucky with the group I was paired with," Taylor wrote in a message shared to social media on February 6. "All people whose work I've admired from afar. When we were all talking during the broadcast, Domhnall made a light-hearted joke about wanting to be in one of my music videos. He's Irish! He was joking!"

"Except," Taylor wasn't joking. "That in that moment during the interview, I was instantly struck with an *idea*." She added, "I had this thought that it would be wild if all of our fellow guests on the Graham Norton show that night, including Graham himself, could be a part of it too. Like a school group project but for adults and it isn't mandatory. To my delight, everyone from the show made the effort to time travel back to the 90s with us and help with this video."

As for the group, the 36-year-old couldn't have asked for a more bejeweled experience. "I had more fun than I ever imagined," she shared. "Made new friends, metaphors, and fashion choices. It was an absolute thrill to create this story and these characters."
