Emma Stone is tackling the buzz surrounding her unexpected encounter with a bee at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival. During a red carpet photo op in France last month, Emma, along with her "Eddington" costars Austin Butler and Pedro Pascal, were immersed in capturing a memorable moment when a bee unexpectedly buzzed into the frame. A clip, shared by Variety on May 16, captured Austin attempting to gently shoo the insect away. However, some viewers were left wondering if Austin's gesture had inadvertently directed the bee towards Emma, a concern she promptly quelled.
"He was trying to blow it behind me!" she clarified with a chuckle during the June 26th episode of "Jimmy Kimmel Live!". "He's a complete sweetheart—there's no chance he'd intentionally put that bee in my face," she emphasized. When guest host Diego Luna jestingly suggested that Austin had "brought the bee," Emma playfully countered, almost guaranteeing that if anyone had summoned the bee, it would have been her other costar. "It was probably Pedro who unleashed that bee," she joked, quickly adding that they're all great friends and Pedro is "wonderful."
Emma has previously spoken glowingly about her positive relationships with her male costars. In fact, she revealed in 2017 that some of them had even taken pay cuts to ensure she earned an equal wage, noting that women generally earn only four-fifths of what their male counterparts do. "In my career so far, I've needed my male co-stars to take a pay cut so that I could have parity with them," she told Out Magazine, as reported by CNBC. "They do this for me because they believe it's right and fair," she continued. She further emphasized, "This aspect isn't always discussed—achieving equal pay will require people to selflessly acknowledge that fairness is what matters."
