Erin Bates Paine's parents have broken their silence amid their daughter's hospitalization. Two weeks after the "Bringing Up Bates" alum was rushed to the ICU due to complications following the birth of her seventh child, Henry, with husband Chad Paine, Gil Bates and Kelly Bates revealed that their recent days have felt like a whirlwind.
"We've hesitated to share updates because Erin's diagnosis has shifted multiple times," they wrote in an Instagram Story on September 10. "Each time she'd seem to recover from one issue, another complication would arise. It's left even the doctors puzzled, despite extensive testing. Without a definitive diagnosis and with her condition fluctuating constantly, it's been challenging to keep everyone informed."
Yet, the parents of 19 children emphasized that their entire family remains "immensely grateful for the heartfelt messages we've received during these uncertain times."
"We've experienced tearful nights, sleepless nights, joyful nights, and a spectrum of emotions in between," Gil and Kelly added in their statement. "But through it all, we've felt an overwhelming sense of gratitude for the love that has consistently enveloped us!"
Indeed, it's been an emotional rollercoaster for the couple. Amid Erin's hospitalization, their younger daughter, Carlin Bates, welcomed her third child—a baby girl—with husband Evan Stewart.
"A little ray of sunshine has entered our world and brought smiles to all our faces!" Kelly shared on their Instagram on September 11, alongside photos of the family visiting the newborn in the hospital. "The joy of getting to hold our newest granddaughter is exactly what my heart needed!"
Calling the newborn a "tiny angel," the matriarch continued, "I'm so grateful to God for a safe delivery for Carlin and her baby!"
For Erin's husband, Chad, the past few weeks have also been a journey filled with highs and lows. "Recovery is neither quick nor easy, but we are deeply thankful for every small step forward," he wrote on Instagram on September 9. "It has absolutely shattered my heart to see Erin endure such pain, yet witnessing her lift her voice in praise to the Lord amidst it all has been nothing short of awe-inspiring."
