Molly Qerim has delivered her final farewell note. The long-standing ESPN personality is bidding adieu to her role as the host of *First Take*—a show she has been an integral part of since 2015.
"Hosting this show has been one of the greatest honors of my career," Molly penned in an Instagram Story on September 16. "Every morning, I had the incredible privilege of sharing the desk with some of the most brilliant, passionate, and entertaining voices in the sports world—and with all of you, the absolute best fans in existence." The 41-year-old added, "I am profoundly grateful for what this journey has bestowed upon me: lifelong friendships, unforgettable memories, and the opportunity to be part of something truly extraordinary."
"From the deepest recesses of my heart, thank you for welcoming me into your homes," Molly continued. "Stay tuned. With love and gratitude, Molly." While Molly admitted that the news had surfaced earlier than she had intended and "not in the manner I had envisioned," she refrained from delving into further specifics regarding her departure.
As for ESPN, Burke Magnus, the network's president of content, issued a statement on X (formerly Twitter) on September 16, stating, "Molly has been an indispensable component of ESPN since 2006 and a pivotal force behind *First Take*'s success since she assumed the hosting role a decade ago." "She elevated the show with her grace, expertise, and professionalism, all while being a supportive and uplifting teammate," he continued. "We honor Molly's choice, wish her the utmost success in her future endeavors, and extend our heartfelt gratitude for her extraordinary daily dedication to sports fans and ESPN."
Her *First Take* co-host, Stephen A. Smith, also voiced his sorrow over Molly's decision to depart. "Molly is not just a friend; she's a colleague. Molly is someone I've leaned on countless times, just as she has relied on me," he shared on his YouTube channel following her announcement. "We've been partners on this show for the last ten years." The 57-year-old confessed that her departure "came as a complete shock" and that he "wasn't privy to the fact that she was considering such a move."
"But ultimately, she made her decision," he remarked. "And we, as a show, must forge ahead. I'm not thrilled about it.
