Evangeline Lilly is embarking on a formidable health challenge. Seven months after experiencing a concussion due to a face-first fall in Hawaii, the 'Lost' alum shared that her recent brain scans have revealed new insights into the long-term repercussions of the accident.
"As I step into this new year, the Year of the Horse, I have some troubling news about my concussion," she said in a video posted on Instagram on Jan. 2. "The results from the scans indicate that almost every area of my brain is functioning at a reduced capacity. Consequently, I have sustained brain damage from the [traumatic brain injury] and possibly other underlying factors."

"Now, my task is to work with the doctors to uncover the root cause and embark on the arduous journey of rectifying it, which I'm not looking forward to," Evangeline continued. "I feel like I'm always working hard."
Despite the challenging path ahead, the 46-year-old, who shares two children with her longtime boyfriend Norman Kali, noted a glimmer of hope amidst her medical journey.
"My cognitive decline since my facial injury has helped me to slow down and enjoy a more peaceful conclusion to 2025," she explained. "I think this was the calmest, most restful Christmas holiday I've had since I had children, which was 14 years ago. So that's a positive thing."
Evangeline also held a positive outlook for the new year, saying she felt "extraordinarily grateful and blessed" as she headed into 2026.
"That's my concussion update," she concluded. "Thank you all for caring."
Previously, Evangeline detailed her injury in a post on her Substack in May, along with images of her facial wounds, explaining that she has experienced fainting spells since childhood due to hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). Despite dealing with the immediate effects of the fall, the actress was able to focus on the brighter side.
"It might seem crazy looking at my face and my busted tooth, but I feel so grateful that I blacked out," she added. "I needed the reset."
