Former Turnstile guitarist Brady Ebert has been charged with attempted second-degree murder and first-degree assault following an alleged incident involving frontman Brendan Yates' father. According to police in Montgomery County, Maryland (via Pagesix), the 33-year-old allegedly struck 78-year-old William Yates with a vehicle during an argument at a residence in Silver Spring last Sunday. Authorities say Ebert then left the scene without contacting emergency services or providing assistance. The victim sustained serious injuries, including a broken leg, and was transported to hospital. Police later located the vehicle abandoned nearby, with surveillance footage reportedly capturing the incident. Ebert was arrested on Tuesday and is currently being held without bond, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for May 1.

In a statement shared with Rolling Stone, Turnstile confirmed they cut ties with Ebert back in 2022, citing a "consistent pattern of harmful behavior affecting himself, the band, and the community." Their statement continued: "After exhausting every available resource to support his access to help and recovery, a boundary ultimately had to be set when healthy communication was no longer possible and he began threatening violence."
"In the years since, his baseless tirades have continued in public. We never addressed it. We chose to protect his privacy and the circumstances around his departure, even when he did nothing to be deserving of that protection. Over the past few months, his threats only escalated further."
They also addressed the condition of Brendan Yates' dad, stating: "This past week, that violence led to a physical attack when Brady went to the house of Brendan's parents and used his vehicle to run over Brendan's father, causing severe physical trauma. We are grateful that Mr. Yates survived, has successfully undergone surgery, and we’re hoping for the best possible outcome in his recovery."
They added: "We have no language left for Brady. Please respect our privacy in this time."
Ebert was a founding member of Turnstile and performed on their first three albums before departing in 2022. At the time, according to a report from Lambgoat, the band's drummer, Fang, filed a temporary peace order against Ebert on August 4th, though it was revoked on August 11th due to a lack of evidence. The band has since continued their upward trajectory, most recently taking home major wins at the 2026 Grammys.
The news comes just weeks after Turnstile wrapped up their 2026 Australian headline tour with Basement and made their triple j Like A Version debut, covering The Stone Roses' "I Wanna Be Adored."
