‘Full House’ Star Andrea Barber Recalls “Gross” Question About Family Sitcom

A significant number of "Full House" viewers undoubtedly harbored a fond admiration for John Stamos, whoportrayed Uncle Jesse in the beloved ABC sitcom. Yet, his youthful co-stars failed to view him through the same rose-colored lenses. On the "How Rude, Tanneritos!" podcast, alongside fellow castmate Jodie Sweetin, Andrea Barber—who essayed the character of Kimmy Gibbler, the next-door neighbor and best friend to D.J. Tanner (played by Candace Cameron Bure)—recalled being quizzed in interviews about whether she had ever harbored a "crush" on Stamos. She deemed such inquiries as "gross."

"Absolutely not," she emphasized, continuing her thoughts on Stamos and his co-star Dave Coulier, who played Joey Gladstone, the family friend who, alongside widowed dad Danny (portrayed by Bob Saget), helped raise the Tanner sisters. "They were akin to our elder brothers, and we never conceived of them in that light."

Sweetin echoed this sentiment, adding, "Not even in the realm of elder brothers. They felt more like my uncles."

This anecdote surfaced during a lively game of "Would You Rather" on a recent mini-episode of Barber and Sweetin's rewatch podcast, as they reminisced about the two-part episode where Jesse and Becky (played by Lori Loughlin) tied the knot. Amidst the wedding-themed trivia, the co-hosts were presented with the query of whether they would prefer to marry Joey or Jesse, which they found utterly "bizarre."

"They're family, and it's just weird," Sweetin remarked.

Despite this, the duo opted for Joey, with Sweetin justifying her choice purely on the basis of "temperament."

"There's nothing remotely appealing about this scenario," Barber later quipped. "They're simply our buds, and, honestly, this question is kind of odd."

Following the conclusion of "Full House" in 1995, Sweetin, Barber, Bure, and several other members of the original cast reprised their iconic roles in the Netflix sequel, "Fuller House," which aired from 2016 to 2020.
