‘Game of Thrones’ Spinoff ‘The Hedge Knight’ Gets 2025 Release Date

David Zaslav, the CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, has revealed exciting updates about HBO's eagerly awaited sequel to 'Game of Thrones.' The journey of 'Dunk and Egg' is drawing nearer to their grand HBO debut. Zaslav shared insights on Friday about the next spinoff series, 'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight' (though it seems destined for a title change to avoid redundancy).

"George R.R. Martin, the creator and executive producer, is currently in preproduction for the new spinoff, 'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,' which is slated to premiere in late 2025 on Max," Zaslav revealed. The show is expected to commence production sometime this year, igniting anticipation among fans.

With 'House of the Dragon' gearing up for its second season this summer, the announcement of 'Knight of the Seven Kingdoms' next year hints at a potential yearly flow of 'Thrones' dramas on HBO (assuming both shows can turn around their respective seasons within two years).

"Looking ahead, we've assembled one of the most impressive lineups in HBO's illustrious history," Zaslav added. "In the coming quarter, we have 'Hacks' and 'House of the Dragon' lined up, followed by DC's 'The Penguin' and the new 'Dune' series. Then, in 2025, we'll kick off the year with a fresh season of 'The White Lotus,' followed by 'The Last of Us' and 'Euphoria,' among other notable offerings."

As reported earlier this month, HBO is also developing an 'Aegon's Conquest' prequel series penned by Mattson Tomlin, the writer of 'The Batman: Part II.' Other concepts set in Martin's fantastical world are also in the pipeline, although only 'House of the Dragon' and 'Knight of the Seven Kingdoms' have received the green light.

'The Hedge Knight' is inspired by Martin's popular trilogy of 'Dunk and Egg' novellas. These tales chronicle the adventures of "Dunk" (the future Lord Commander of the Kingsguard, Ser Duncan the Tall) and "Egg" (the future king Aegon V Targaryen) as they traverse Westeros, encountering thrilling exploits roughly a century before the events chronicled in the novels.

The description reads: "A century before the events of 'Game of Thrones,' two unlikely heroes wandered the vast landscape of Westeros — a young, naive but valiant knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his pint-sized squire, Egg. Set in an era where the Targaryen dynasty still reigned supreme on the Iron Throne and the memory of the last dragon lingered in the hearts of men, these two improbable and unparalleled friends embark on a journey filled with grand destinies, formidable foes, and perilous exploits."
