Glen Powell has recently offered a candid insight into his stance on superhero films, sharing his reflections on passing up the opportunity to star in 'Jurassic World Rebirth.' Amid the promotions for his upcoming film 'The Running Man,' the actor sat down with Empire Magazine to elaborate on his decision to decline the role in the dinosaur-themed blockbuster.
Powell, now 36, confessed that he struggled to connect with his proposed character in the new 'Jurassic' installment, preferring instead to portray more "everyday" individuals. "For the most part, I just don't identify with people possessing superpowers," he admitted. The 'Top Gun' actor emphasized his fondness for narratives featuring "the ordinary guy facing extraordinary challenges." "Imagine a man hunted by the entire world, fighting for his life and his family's safety. That's a compelling, timeless tale," highlighted Powell.
Digging deeper into his rationale for turning down 'Jurassic,' the 'Hit Man' star revealed, "At times, you have to visualize yourself in the movie, and you think, 'No, I wouldn't shine in this role.'" He continued, acknowledging, "There's someone out there who could breathe more life into the character or do a better job than I could."
Moreover, the 'Twisters' actor added a touch of realism to his perspective, stating, "You have to be pragmatic about these things. Sometimes, you might inadvertently sideline yourself, but that's alright." Powell also disclosed a near-miss in landing a role in 'Oppenheimer,' which ultimately went to Josh Harnett, and unsuccessful auditions for parts in both 'Captain America: The First Avenger' and 'Solo.' "There's definitely an element of chance involved," he noted.
Wrapping up his thoughts, Powell emphasized, "I still stand by the belief that the best candidate doesn't always land the gig. Excellence alone isn't enough – you also need a fair share of luck."
